Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my website!
I am an English Language Instructor teaching a variety of ESL courses at the University of Hawai'i. I am a Maui native, and have traveled extensively through many parts of California as well as Japan. I graduated from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa with a double major, Bachelor's of Arts degree, one in Japanese Language and Literature, and the other in Second Language Studies. This eventually lead to my enrolling at the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education, where I will be obtaining a Masters of Arts in Teaching - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) degree in March of 2016!
I am particularly interested in the acquisition of language, first and second, as well as the growth and development in second language learners through English reading literacy and writing skills. Research that I have done for my Master's coursework included looking at the acquisition of these skills, the development of lesson plans dealing with reading and writing as well as looking at how ESL/EFL learners can obtain and attain a high level of lexical ability depending on resource materials they are provided with or bring with them to classes. I have also looked at how pronunciation plays a key role in their reading comprehension as well.
I am very passionate about teaching and believe that my active involvement in pursuing higher education, as well as providing exceptional education to students is essential to me being able to call myself a teacher. One thing I encourage for my students and myself is to always love learning. Learning to love learning is but one way to learn how to learn.
